A general outline of the exam: Part I: Short answers (a few sentences). Worth 30%; you’ll have a choice of 5 out of 7. Part II: Essay questions (two). These should fill up most of the page. Worth 30%. One of them will be worth 20%, the other 10% (your choice as to which one you want me to count 20%). Part III: Fill in the blank. Each correct answer should be one or two words. Worth 30%; you’ll have a choice of 15 out of 17. Part IV: Matching. 10 questions, for a total of 10%. No choices here. This will deal mostly with the species accounts. Since it’s matching, this is probably the easiest way to deal with this material. (The parts might not be in the same order as listed here). Some hints: Pretty much anything in the notes or class discussion is fair game. But to make it just a bit easier, feel free to skip over the species accounts of the following: Bermuda Petrel Seychelles magpie-robin Black robin Puerto Rican Parrot Pink Pigeon Hawaiian goose Dark rumped petrel Jamaican Hutia In addition, in the notes entitled "more recent extinctions", you may skip over any bird (but not mammal) species we discussed. For example, this would include such extinct or near extinct species as the Caerulean Paradise flycatcher or Blewett’s forest owlet.
