English 302: Advanced Composition -- Summer C, 2004
English 302 is an Advanced Composition course which usually fills a fifteen week semester; we will cover the same material in four weeks. To do this, we will meet Mondays through Thursdays for 2 hour sessions. The amount of writing in the course is about the same as the fifteen week semester; the amount of reading is somewhat reduced. However, the course will require a concentrated effort (on my part as well as yours).

The first reading for the course will be Tim Berners-Lee's Weaving the Web. This short book will provide the research topics for both the Business and Natural Science sections of this course. Business majors will research web-based business models. Science majors may research the effects of the Internet and the WWW on science, or the science of the WWW. I generally allow students to find their own research topics, but there is too little time in such a short session.

The writing assignments for this course includes two short papers and a research project. The research project will take most the class time, but the project includes several short writing assignments (annotated bibliography, draft and peer review), each of which will receive a separate grade.
