Competency Prompt |
How might the work you have completed during these past two weeks enhance your capabilities to act as an effective citizen? |
Over the course of the past two weeks I have done a lot of reading, and a lot of writing about the reading. Integrating everything I have read has allowed me to think about things and question who I am as a person. I have had the opportunity to read some wonderful material from around the world. Most importantly, I have learned about the variety of ideologies and systems existing in the world historically as well as the modern world I live in today. There is no longer, "one way to do things" for me, there are multiple ways. The most important part of being a good citizen is learning about citizens of the past, their conduct, rights, and beliefs. I am much more balanced now in my wealth of thought than I was before NCLC 130. Without being cynical, the most valuable lesson I have learned is to question everything that is presented before me and never take anything at face value. Questioning things and looking at a topic, issue or problem from multiple angles has enhanced my capabilities to act as an effective citizen and to make the right decisions for both my individual life and that of my country. |
