I understand that it is a violation of English Department policy to submit a paper which is the same, or substantially the same, as a paper I have submitted in another writing course. Exceptions to this rule can be made by individual teachers if I make it clear to the teacher that I am using a previously submitted paper as a draft for new work and I include the draft with the other teacher's comments for my instructor's review. I understand that if it is discovered that I have submitted the same paper in two different courses without the permission of the instructor, I will be brought before the Honor Committee to defend my position.
If I choose to submit a paper to both my English professor and another professor, I understand that I must print out the Dual Submission Form below and have it signed by both professors.
Dear professor:
This is to inform you that the student bearing this paper is enrolled in
English 302, Advanced Composition, which fulfills one of the two
University composition requirements. According to the Faculty Senate
(1981), English 302 is intended to support and reinforce the assignment of
writing by students' professors in their major courses. An important
component of the approved plan for 302 is the opportrunity offered to
students to submit at least one paper assigned in another class for
critique in English 302. Students follow the stages of the writing
process in completing their assignment, receiving comments on drafts from
the English 302 professor and other students, then making appropriate
revisions. Such papers count for credit in both courses.
