John's Running |

For most of my life I ran when I could.
In my childhood in Idaho:
- The winters were cold and I ran to stay warm.
- We lived one mile from where we got off the school bus. It took a long time to walk that distance so I often ran so that I could get home, do my homework as soon as possible and then onto serious playing.
- We lived in the mountains and I often ran the roads up the mountain.
- I delivered papers and sold TV guides and Christmas cards to make money, but the cold temperature made it difficult and I ran again to stay warm.
- In high school I ran to relieve tension before and after exams.
As an Adult:
- In the military, I was a cook and discovered that I was sampling too much food and ran to lose weight.
- In college, I started running for the fun of it! I loved running at sunset in FL to enjoy the sky as day became night even though it was very hot at that time in the summer.
I learned to enjoy running then and have continued running since. Since 1991 (in VA), I have run every year andkept a spreadsheet in which I record every mile I run. On July 17, 2016 I finished my first lap around the world. I am working on the second one and have complete about 2300 mi. I am dedicating the running to raising money for my scholarship which was highlighted below:
